Saudi Arabia's First Luxury Train Service Is Coming in 2025
Dream of the Desert will cross the Kingdom, from Riyadh to Al Qurayyat in the north.
Saudi Arabia is preparing to unveil its latest travel experience – Dream of the Desert, the Kingdom's first luxury train service, promising access to the country’s diverse landscapes and cultural sights.
The project, commissioned by Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and executed by the Italian Arsenale Group, involves the creation of a 40-cabin train specifically designed for luxurious travel. Scheduled to launch by the end of 2025, this rolling hospitality project will traverse 800 miles across existing railway lines, starting in the capital Riyadh and culminating near the Jordanian border in Al Qurayyat. Passengers can expect stopovers in destinations like Al Qassim, Hail, and Al Jouf, each offering a glimpse into the Kingdom’s culture and heritage.
The train’s design will blend modern luxury with traditional Saudi aesthetics, while the carriages, which will be crafted in Italy by renowned rail travel experts Arsenale Group, will be customized to reflect the distinct style and heritage of Saudi Arabia.
This project also aligns with Saudi Arabia's ambitious Vision 2030 tourism goals. Aiming to attract 150 million visitors by 2030, the Kingdom is actively developing its tourism infrastructure, including hotels and resorts across diverse regions. Dream of the Desert acts as a strategic initiative, attracting high-end tourists and showcasing the nation's hidden treasures.
Furthermore, with post-pandemic travel trends leaning towards experiential and slow travel, luxury train cruising is gaining significant traction. Dream of the Desert capitalizes on this trend, offering a unique and personalized way to explore the heart of Saudi Arabia.
