Surreal Horizons Await at Sharjah's New Floating Resort in Sharjah

Sharjah’s newest glamping experience requires ensconcing yourself in an all-glass tent dangling between its Al Hajara Mountain peaks.

Floating around the glass enclave and looking out at the sun-dappled mountains in your satin nightgown and delicate lace shawl, you may hear a little melody in your head now and again – Umm Kulthoum’s powerful voice crooning the first few verses of Seeret El Hob, perhaps.

You bring a piping hot fengan of Turkish coffee to your lips as you gaze out at the blood-orange sun rising slowly from beneath the Al Hajara mountains, nestled as precariously between Oman and the UAE’s Sharjah as you are between its peaks, ensconced in your five-star glass tent.

You sink into a velvet futon and a collection of Nizar Qabbani’s poems, losing yourself to a love long gone, only resurfacing when your stomach makes its rage known. You change into a flowy linen dress and find the controls to hike your glasshouse up to the bridge wherein nine other glass tents dangle, passing by an opulent spa as you make your way to the restaurant.

As the sun’s scorching rays dial down, you double back to the spa, slowly lowering yourself into the warm embrace of the jacuzzi and committing the surreal horizon to memory with a lazy half-lidded gaze.

By the time you’re loose-limbed and pliant, the sky is glittering with millions of stars, twinkling closely enough that you almost believe you can reach out and touch them.

Such is how we imagine an experience at the UAE’s ‘Floating Retreat’ - still in its planning phase - will be.
