Amansamar Wadi Safar Serenades Luxury & Heritage in the Saudi Desert

Amansamar celebrates Saudi Arabia's culture by fusing minimalism with the architectural traditions of Najdi communities.

Scene Traveller

Aman, the ultra-luxury hotel brand that evokes visions of otherworldly retreats where seclusion and elegance coexist, admired and frequented by celebrities like Brad Pitt and Kim Kardashian, is establishing itself in Saudi Arabia with Amansamar at Wadi Safar.

Tucked away amidst the desert scenery just outside of Riyadh, Amansamar derives its name from the Sanskrit word for ‘peace’ (‘aman’, which also means ‘safety’ in Arabic) and the Arabic term ‘samar’, symbolising evening gatherings and connections. With a total area of two million square metres, the resort blends in with the unscathed, ethereal landscape of Wadi Safar.

The resort's architectural philosophy, led by Denniston Architects' renowned Jean-Michel Gathy, is a love letter to Saudi culture. Gathy's design concept honours Saudi culture through every curve and structure, fusing modern minimalism with the historic architectural traditions of Najdi communities.

Local materials dominate the aesthetic, from the earthy tones of the walls to the intricate geometric patterns reminiscent of Najdi art. The architecture echoes the desert's natural contours, creating a visual dialogue between the built environment and the landscape.

Guests can choose from 78 meticulously designed rooms, each framing panoramic views of the golden desert. The resort features exclusive villas that blend indoor and outdoor spaces for those seeking ultimate privacy, allowing seamless immersion into the serene surroundings.

The property’s four branded farms elevate its ethos of connection with nature. Far from being mere functional spaces, these farms provide guests with opportunities to engage with the land, exploring its bounty while embracing the rich yet simplistic desert life.

Every element of Amansamar has been crafted to celebrate the locale. From the winding pathways that mimic the natural flow of the Wadi Safar to the carefully curated orchards dotting the grounds, the resort offers a tranquil retreat that feels both timeless and contemporary.

Serving as a holistic sanctuary, the resort features Aman’s signature spa and wellness facilities, focusing on rejuvenation and balance, inspired by the surrounding desert's healing energies. Dining concepts draw from local and international cuisines, weaving Najdi culinary traditions into an innovative gastronomic tapestry.

The project is a cornerstone of Aman’s broader expansion into Saudi Arabia, which includes additional properties under the Janu brand, Aman’s wellness-focused offshoot.
