Eco Egypt Launches 'Green List' to Highlight Egypt's Sustainable Stays

The campaign’s goal is to promote sustainable tourism and to encourage travellers to take care of Egypt like they would take care of their homes.

The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities just released the cutest video on their Facebook page to promote the ‘Green List’, as part of their Eco Egypt Experiences campaign.

The campaign’s goal is to promote sustainable tourism and to encourage travellers to take care of Egypt like they would take care of their homes. The campaign is geared towards adventurous tourists, looking for out-of-the-box experiences.

By visiting the Eco Egypt website at ecoegypt.org and scrolling to the bottom, you will have access to their ‘Green List’, a selection of trusted hotels, ecolodges, diving centres and eco-friendly products that are all dedicated to sustainable tourism in Egypt.

Throughout the promotional video you see allusions to some of the ministries’ various programmes, such as the Green Star initiative for hotel certification, a massive capacity building programme managed by the Egyptian Hotel Association to ensure hotels maintain sustainable practices in everything they do.

You can also see the Green Fins programme, a project established with the UN Environment Programme and the Reef World Foundation. The initiative aims to educate tourists on the impacts of marine tourism and what they can do to help reduce them. Diving centres that are part of the Green Fins programme are ones that practice responsible tourism, allowing you to safely explore Egypt’s beautiful coral reefs without harming them.

One thing the Green List definitely does is highlight not just the sustainable establishments that have been recognised by the Egyptian government, but the sheer breadth and diversity of Egypt's eco tourist offerings. Scroll below to see the full list of ecolodges across all of Egypt's governorates that have been featured on the Green List, from the solemn mountains of St. Catherine to the clear blue seas of Marsa Alam.
