Between Greta Thunberg touring Europe by train to speak out for climate action, to initiatives like COP27 By Bike whereupon four men cycle from Egypt’s New Administrative Capital to the resort town of Sharm El Sheikh, the message is clear: sustainable travel is essential.

But even the greenest amongst us needs to ride a plane every now and then. Here to make our air travel guilt free is Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways, which is taking off with its first zero-net carbon emissions flight to transport passengers to the COP27 UN Climate Change Summit (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh.

Using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) provided by alternative fuel company World Energy, Etihad Airways will operate their net-zero carbon emissions flight from Washington Dulles Airport to Abu Dhabi via Sharm El Sheikh, where delegates to COP27 will be able to drop off. The flights will be operated on Etihad Airways’ Boeing 787 ‘Greenliner’, with hopes of reaching net-zero carbon emissions throughout the entire airline by 2050.
