Makkah Is Getting Its Very Own Airport
At present, most pilgrims arrive via Jeddah before continuing their journey to Makkah by car, coach, or train. The new airport is intended to reduce this additional leg of travel.
Plans for a new airport in Makkah have been approved, in a move expected to make travel to the holy city more direct for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. At present, most pilgrims arrive via Jeddah before continuing their journey to Makkah by car, coach, or train. The new airport is intended to reduce this additional leg of travel by offering a closer point of arrival. Once operational, it is expected to streamline access to Makkah, particularly during peak pilgrimage periods when existing routes experience high demand. While details such as capacity and timelines have yet to be fully outlined, the project is part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure supporting religious travel to the Holy City.
