Unleash Your Inner Artist at This Art Retreat in Wadi al-Weshwashy
Running from July 9th to July 14th, the retreat takes place at Wadi al-Weshwashy, which is eight hours away from Cairo.
In Egypt’s South Sinai, tucked within the mountains near the coastal town of Nuweiba, you can follow a spring of water towards a serene lake hidden in the valley known as Wadi al-Weshwashy. With its ethereal views it is undoubtedly a source of creative energy - one that local art enthusiasts Cocool Cultural Centre plans to tap into with the second edition of their ‘Fananin el Madina F Sina’ (“City Artists in Sinai” in Arabic) art retreat.
Running from July 9th to July 14th, the retreat takes place at Wadi al-Weshwashy, which is eight hours away from Cairo. The valley is characterized by its beautiful pool-like structures, formed via years and years of accumulated rain.
The retreat will include three workshops: a mixed media arts workshop by Yomna Nafea, an illustration workshop by Keem the Kid, and a Photography workshop by Photomero, who will also be capturing the trip through his unique lens.
Beyond this being an opportunity to learn from some of Cairo’s more experienced artists, the trip will also allow you to unwind, swim and isolate yourself from society for a day. They only ask that you bring your camera, towel, bedsheets, sketchbook, swimsuits, towels and, optionally, anything you might want to show off - an instrument, a talent, anything.
They have four kinds of packages available: the BYOT (Bring Your Own Tent) package runs for EGP 4,500 per person; the Sea View hut with a fan costs EGP 5,100 per person; Sea View hut with air conditioning costs EGP 5,500 per person; a suite with a private bathroom and air conditioning will go for EGP 6,100 per person.
The trip will start at your chosen pickup point, they have three, with an option to increase them upon demand. The three standard pickup spots are found in the Fifth Settlement, Dokki and New Cairo, and take you on an 8-hour long road trip to Wadi al-Weshwashy. There, you’ll be led by a Bedouin guide towards your space for the day.
To book your spot, you will need to send a message to @cocooncultureeg on Instagram.
