This Egyptian Community Is Bringing the World of Sailing to El Gouna
Hosted by Red Sea Sails, the event brings together sailors from Egypt and around the world for action-packed racing between blue skies and emerald seas.
The sun is out, the wind is blowing, and all sails are hoisted here in El Gouna for the Red Sea Sailing Regatta.
Hosted by Red Sea Sails—the El Gouna-based school training the next generation of Egyptian seafarers—the regatta is back for its 2nd edition, bringing sailors from across Egypt and the world for three days of action-packed racing between blue skies and emerald seas.
In this one-of-a-kind event in Egypt, fifteen yachts ranging from classic wooden monohulls to glitzy catamarans race off the shore of El Gouna, reviving the ancient sport of sailing in the country where it first started 5,000 years ago on the Nile.
SceneTraveller got a first-class view of the action aboard the spectator boat, where judges kept a watchful eye as the yachts made their way across the triangular racecourse.
