Film AlUla Begins Construction of Giant Studio Complex in Saudi Arabia
Lights, camera, action! Saudi’s film scene just got bigger.
Film AlUla, Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for AlUla's film agency, has begun construction on the first phase of its studio complex. The completed complex will cover approximately 30,000 square metres and is expected to be operational by the end of next year.
A total of two world-class soundstages, production support buildings, a pyro/sfx building, a sound recording studio and a 6,500 square metre backlot - all of which will cater to the complex’s administration - will be included in the first phase. The complex boasts a view meant to showcase AlUla’s beauty and ancient heritage, making it the perfect for on-location filming and minimal set construction. The project's goal of attracting both domestic and international productions is aided by Saudi Arabia's offer of a cashback rebate of up to 40% on international and domestic feature films, television series and documentaries. The studio complex also adheres to stringent environmental regulations. Film AlUla hired environmental consultants to conduct a 10-month impact assessment on the new location and, in turn, will be embedding regular environmental monitoring into its infrastructure.
