Marriott Mena House on Travel+Leisure's Top Hotels in MENA Region

Among the many architectural treasures and cultural hubs that make up the hotels found throughout the Middle East and North Africa, Marriott Mena House, Cairo has been recognised as one of the top hotels in the region - a ruling made by the people at world-renowned travel magazine Travel + Leisure's annual World's Best Awards survey. Ranked No. 4, just below Dubai's Burj Al Arab Jumeirah and two hotels from Morocco - namely Royal Mansour Marrakech and La Mamounia - the Marriott Mena House, Cairo has been praised for its unbeatable views. Where else could one gaze out at the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World?

The Marriott Mena House, Cairo has charmed many of history's most notable men and women with its 40-acre landscaped gardens, legendary location, luxurious accommodation and outstanding hospitality . More recently, the Marriott Mena House, Cairo has drawn guests with its gastronomic delights in their high-end restaurants- namely 139 Pavilion with its al fresco dining experience, Moghul Room with their authentic Indian cuisine and Alfredo restaurant with its homemade Italian taste- and their signature Saray Spa, which boasts effective treatments that are steeped in tradition. Originally built as a hunting lodge nicknamed the 'Mud Hut' for Khedive Ismail Pasha in 1869, the building was sold as a private residence in 1883 before opening as a hotel in 1886. It had been named 'The Mena House' after King Mena, the ancient ruler who established the first Egyptian dynasty, who was often credited with uniting Upper and Lower Egypt through glorious conquest with his mighty army.

The hotel was acquired by Marriott International in 2018, and has since undergone extensive renovations. The garden wing became the Marriott Mena House, Cairo and the palace wing - which is still being restored - is scheduled to open as the JW Marriott Mena House Cairo in 2022.
