Oceanman Final World Championship 2021 Heads to Soma Bay
On December 3rd and December 4th, Oceanman Final World Championship will be held in Africa for the very first time at the shores of Soma Bay.
Last year, Oceanman - an international swimming championship - came to Egypt for the first time. Thanks to accomplished swimming athlete and entrepreneur Cherif Fathy, a school of swimmers from around the region and the globe flew to Egypt’s glittering coastline to partake in an epic open-water swim in Sahl Hasheesh they’re not likely to ever forget. This December, Oceanman is back and bigger than ever, with its official Final World Championship held at the Red Sea resort town of Soma Bay.
This isn’t just the first time the Final World Championship is being held in Egypt; it’ll be the first Oceanman Final World Championship in all of Africa. On December 3rd and December 4th, participants from over 50 countries will race to the finish line in the open waters of the Red Sea.
“We’re trying to promote sports tourism in Egypt, bringing athletes from all over the world to our country and sharing the passion of open water swimming with them in one of Egypt’s prime beachside destinations,” Fathy tells CairoScene.
The categories will be split by age, from the juniors’ categories for swimmers 16 to 19 years old, to Master levels for swimmers over 60 years old. The championship also includes categories for swimmers with disabilities, team races and more. The Oceanman Final World Championship is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sport, with support from the Egyptian Swimming Federation.
Registration for the championship is still open, so if you want to take your shot towards swimming glory, you can head to oceanman-openwater.com to reserve your spot.
