Emirates Launches Direct Flights Between Dubai & Colombia's Bogotá

Starting June 3rd, Emirates, the renowned Dubai-based airline, is launching daily fifth-freedom flights between Dubai and Bogota, Colombia, with a layover in Miami. This marks Emirates’s first commercial flights to Colombia, representing a significant expansion of Emirates's network in South America.

In February, Emirates Airlines submitted a request to Colombia's civil air regulation service, Aeronáutica Civil, which has since been received and approved. This development, as confirmed by Colombia's Minister of Transport, William Camargo Triana, holds tremendous potential for fostering increased trade, tourism, and investment between Colombia and the Middle East.

Typically, airlines can only carry passengers between their home country and another country when they have specific rights to do so. However, a fifth-freedom flight allows an airline to carry passengers between two foreign countries, provided their home country is not one of them. In this case, Emirates will carry passengers between Miami and Bogota, which will be a welcome option for travelers currently facing limited flight options or long connection times.

On their route between Dubai International Airport (DXB) to El Dorado International Airport (BOG), passengers must complete the U.S. Customs and Immigration in Miami.

With this new route, Emirates will establish its fourth connection to South America, joining its existing services to Buenos Aires (EZE), Rio de Janeiro (GIG), and São Paulo (GRU), strengthening Emirates' presence in South America.
