This Resort Carved Into a Mountain Is Now Open in Saudi’s Red Sea

Villas hanging off the massif’s edge and Michelin-starred meals inspired by the surroundings—Desert Rock in Saudi’s Red Sea is now open for bookings.

Scene Traveller

The latest hospitality opening on Saudi’s Red Sea, Desert Rock can be found amidst a dramatic landscape of desert terrain and rugged mountains. Spanning 30,000 square meters, the luxury mountain resort features 54 villas and 10 suites, all with views that blend with the interiors so naturally, the mountains start to feel like residents.

Villas suspended along the massif’s edge, elevated villas hanging off the side of a cliff, and suites carved into the rock face—this Red Sea resort has created a symbiotic existence for itself, where it works alongside the nature it calls home.

A model of sustainable luxury, Desert Rock operates entirely on renewable energy and adheres to eco-conscious principles in its design and operations. The resort’s structures are integrated directly into the rock face, minimizing environmental impact and preserving the natural habitat while enhancing local terrestrial ecosystems.

When it comes to dining, the resort offers guests the choice between a Michelin-starred wood-fire-cooked meal at Nyra, the resort’s flagship restaurant helmed by Chef Osman Sezenera, a modern take on Indian cuisine at Basalt, light bites and mocktails at Mica, Peruvian-inspired dishes at Wadi, or a stargazing culinary experience at The Observatory, featuring mocktails and gourmet pastries.

With a setting so energetically charged, it should come as no surprise that Desert Rock provides wellness in all its desert-inspired forms—from aerial yoga classes to a private hammam, and water therapy installations.

A nature-inspired and nature-respectful addition to the Red Sea hospitality landscape, Desert Rock is now open for bookings.
