Vibes Travel's New Package Pairs a Beach Honeymoon With an Umrah Stop

Somewhere between packing the burqa and the bikini, a very specific kind of Arab bride is having a very specific kind of crisis. Do the honeymoon first, or the Umrah? Sunbathe in Bali, then cleanse in Makkah, or is it the other way round?

Egypt’s Vibes Travel has apparently decided to solve the bride’s honeymoon dilemma once and for all, building the whole conundrum into a single package: Bali-Makkah or Maldives-Makkah, two holidays for the price of one plane ticket and a slightly confused, severely overstuffed suitcase.

"I’ll admit, the idea is a bit unusual; it’s the first time I’ve seen this combination done this way, but some people really want to do both after their wedding - so they can start their new life with blessings and beaches,” laughs Kholoud Zaki, co-founder of Vibes Travel.

Zaki started the agency with Mohamed Farid back in 2021, right at the tail end of COVID, when everyone was itching to leave the house and go somewhere, anywhere. Since then, they have built a full spread of group trips, senior trips, New Year getaways, and tailor-made holidays, with Europe as their bread and butter (because Egyptians, as a rule, can’t resist a European summer) followed closely by the Far East, which has quickly become the honeymoon capital of choice thanks to visa-on-arrival ease, prices that don't require a second mortgage, and enough distance from the in-laws’ outrageously early demands for grandchildren.

The Umrah-honeymoon combo, though, came from somewhere much more specific than a spreadsheet. Most flights to the Maldives and Bali already route through a Gulf layover, and Vibes' clients kept spotting the loophole for themselves, wondering why they'd sit in a transit lounge when they could nip out and do a Umrah instead.

“People would often want to start their new life with Umrah anyway, but also want the Maldives for a relaxing honeymoon,” Zaki explains to SceneTraveller. Rather than treat the two as separate errands, Vibes decided to sell them as one seamless trip, with honeymoon first, ideally, so the ceremonies and toasts have time to settle into fond memory by the time ihram comes on.

The sacred leg of this trip goes on for two days, a short and sweet trip with just enough time for the holy sites and a chance to pay respects near the Haram. As for the beach half of the equation, Bali gets seven days to the Maldives' three, and there's a reason for the imbalance. “Bali has more going on, it's full of activities,” Zaki says, while the Maldives is more of a check-into-one-resort-and-don't-leave situation, three nights being the sweet spot before boredom, or the bill, catches up with you.

Every detail, from flights to transfers to internal connections, is baked into the quoted price, with no asterisks nor surprise add-ons once you land. As for the target audience, Zaki has clocked that the couples booking this 2-in-1 package aren't your standard beach-holiday crowd nor your standard pilgrimage crowd. They're after both, she says, “to have fun and thank God for the fun, that's the specific niche.”
