This is Saudi Arabia’s First Silent Airport

By eliminating all announcements related to take-offs, boarding, and last calls for passengers, Abha International Airport has become the Kingdom’s first silent airport.

Scene Traveller

Following a decision to eliminate all announcements related to take-offs, boarding, and last calls for passengers, Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport has become the Kingdom’s first silent airport.

In a bid to reduce noise pollution and stress, the airport has opted for a quieter environment by discontinuing loudspeaker announcements – a decision that aligns with global practices observed in many international airports, including Singapore Changi International Airport, Zurich International Airport, Dubai International Airport, Amsterdam International Airport, and London City International Airport.

Instead of relying on flight announcements, passengers will receive all relevant information via flight display screen and at the boarding gates prior to opening. A voice call system will be installed in the coming months for use only in emergencies, such as flight cancellations, delays, or other critical announcements.

In order to educate travellers about the silent airport concept, an awareness campaign will be launched, featuring multilingual information boards and electronic notices to highlight the absence of voice calls.
