Walking Through Human History at the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi

From ancient Egypt to Picasso, historical timelines take physical form in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island.

Karim Abdullatif

With galleries mapped out according to time periods, the Louvre Museum Abu Dhabi presents the history of the world in physical form. Here, amidst the museum’s vast wealth of treasures, visitors are able to take a walk through the timeline of human history, from antiquity to the modern era, from the development of Egypt’s ancient embalming techniques and Chinese writings, to the creation of Ottoman armour and Picasso’s artworks.

Located in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island, the Louvre is made up of a series of buildings that hosts the museum’s permanent collections, as well as temporary exhibitions and galleries. You’ll find yourself exploring and learning about eras long gone through treasured items and sculptures, before exiting to the waterfront promenades, where you will be sheltered from sunlight by French architect Jean Nouvel’s geometric-stars dome.
