Mockar House is a Turkish Retreat Straight Out of a Fairy Tale

These tiny homes in the mountains of the Black Sea will make you never want to return to the city.

William Mahfoud

Along the alpine slopes of Turkey’s Black Sea coast the village of  Çamlıhemşin (Cha-mlu-hem-shin) has long been luring travellers with its unassuming charm. Set within an idyllic landscape of rolling hills, deep pine forests, and green pastures, the town’s red roofed chalets and timber-framed farmhouses are a vision straight from a fairytale. The snow capped mountains and glacial lakes of the region are one of Turkey's best kept secrets, while the village of  Çamlıhemşin  has recently become an oasis for artists and urban exiles looking to get away from it all to bask in the beauty of nature.A brisk 15-minute walk through the forest brings guests to Mockar House: a collection of three petite homesteads set within the region’s iconic green meadows, complete with a herd of grazing cows to welcome visitors. Do not expect luxury. Instead, each of these sophisticated tiny homes has been designed to craft a feeling of being at home in nature. Sleeping lofts come complete with skylights to the starry heavens and large picture windows frame the landscape, filling the petite space with gorgeous natural light. Thoughtfully designed with well-stocked kitchenettes, private verandahs, al fresco dining tables and outdoor fireplaces, each Mockar House feels like home.
